The Iconic Puzzle Game Wouldn't Win at The Game Awards — A New Category Could Fix That

As any major honors show approaches, one notices a demand for the addition additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the hearts of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.

A fellow writer previously argued supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front just as with other blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: We need a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations avoid this approach. But it is an unavoidable compromise within the realm of interactive entertainment, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to be recognized, and for games of all stripes to receive proper recognition, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, Role-Playing, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these six categories effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to accommodate them. Think about these outstanding current releases, all very different: building puzzles of one title, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens outstanding logic titles launched regularly lacking appropriate categories during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely that year
  • Another imaginative release was excluded that year
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Limited numbers of brain-teasers managed to sneak into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, however the design in brain-teasers is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The legendary block-stacking game rivals famous sandbox experiences claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.

The Solution and Justification

Puzzle games wouldn’t have that issue. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Similar to movie stunt professionals, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
