Donald Trump's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

The ex-president's voracious appetite for revenge has quickly transformed into a structured system. Within the year since his election, the leader's fury and whims have assumed the guise of government actions in a manner analogous to past dictatorial systems. Federal figures who resist his demands are summarily removed and substituted by loyalists. Critical leaders who question him risk prosecution, trial and punishment. Critics have been designated under administration orders as “unpatriotic”, “anti-Christian” and “against free markets”, and warned with criminal charges as “extremists”.

The Justice System Remade

Each case involving prosecution of Trump's enemies and protection for supporters exhibits its own unique features. Yet, notwithstanding their individual form, they exemplify examples of what has arisen as a calculated approach. These events are not random. The administration's purge of federal prosecutors and FBI officials, alongside his placement of loyalists in high-level positions, began rapidly, soon developed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into partisan agencies under his direct direction to implement his demands. Wrongdoing has been made routine. This is the retribution system.

Administration is focused with penalizing the leader's alleged adversaries than they are with protecting our country's safety.

Inside the Apparatus

The origin of this system has been exposed in the legal complaint of three ex- senior law enforcement executives filed in September in the US district court in DC against FBI director Kash Patel and attorney general Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of payback against the officials for what administration figures deemed to be a failure to show sufficient allegiance”. In the complaint that a former acting director, the ex- interim leader, details a exchange in which the director “publicly admitted the impropriety of his conduct”.

Driscoll had attempted to shield FBI agents from being dismissed, the lawsuit claims. The director informed him that “White House figures” – understood by Driscoll to be the presidential administration and federal prosecutors – had instructed him to dismiss anyone who they determined as having participated in a law enforcement case against the president. The document continues: “The director stated that he had to fire the personnel his bosses told him to dismiss, because his ability to keep his own position depended on the removal of the officials who worked on matters involving the President. The director noted that there was nothing he or the official could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the FBI tried to put the leader in prison and he recalls it clearly.’” When the official told him he was violating the agency's own regulations, the director supposedly said “he understood that and he knew the essence of the summary firings were probably unlawful”.

Widespread Consequences

Since the director's alleged acknowledgment to Driscoll, the DoJ and the Federal Bureau have been gutted and reorganized for his retribution system. Multiple of the agency's top officials were fired or pushed out in the first days of the presidency. Roughly 4,500 legal professionals at the department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. A minimum of several federal prosecutors, such as those in the New York office, quit in protest over what they regarded as political interference in abandoning the criminal prosecution against the New York City mayor, a political figure, in return for his assistance with his Immigration and Customs Enforcement detentions of foreign nationals. The ethics division of DoJ, which oversees ethical violations, has been diminished to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: seventy percent of its staff has left. A third of executives at the justice department have left. The section enforcing conservation statutes has experienced the exit of 50% its leadership.

Favors and Sanctions

Concerning the legal matter, the interim prosecutor for the federal division, Danielle Sassoon, quit in protest against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. A key figure, his “immigration leader,” was present as the implementer with the mayor on Fox News to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I will return in New York City.”. Meanwhile, Emil Bove, earlier the senior DoJ official and a ex-lawyer, who negotiated the arrangement, was awarded an judicial position, a possible springboard to the judicial branch.

His exemption for offenses committed while in government, granted by the extraordinary decision of the conservative on the supreme court, thus thwarting his criminal case over the Capitol riot and maintaining his electoral prospects for the 2024 election, is the basis on which he stands to protect his supporters. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to authorize misconduct. The consequence of the supreme court decision saturates his administration and the GOP down to its bones. The legal case has spread. Similar to Richard Nixon's legal adviser John Dean said about the Watergate
